Sustainable development – assuming responsibility for the short and long-term

The concept of sustainable development was introduced with the UN’s Environment and Development conference in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. Sustainable development is defined as “development which satisfies present demands without limiting the opportunity of future generations for development”.

Stralfors accepts responsibility for sustainable
development by integrating financial, environmental and social aspects into its strategic planning and operational work. Stralfors take account of sustainability in all our production processes and products, from business concept – via values and policies, though the integrated operational systems and objective-oriented methods of working, right up to end delivery to the customer. Laws and regulations constitute only the minimum requirements as regards to how Stralfors and its employees operate.

Sustainable development – at all levels
The top-level framework for sustainable development is outlined in Stralfors’ general Group Policy for Sustainable Development, and in the other Group policies that guide operations. The policies are reviewed annually.

The managers of each Business Area have overall responsibility for ensuring that existing requirements are followed, including sustainability requirements, within each respective Business Area. Responsibility is delegated to departments for their particular areas.

Quality managers, environmental, safety and security co-ordinators have considerable knowledge and experience regarding sustainability work. They constitute an important network and meet regularly to exchange the results of their experience and for training. Overall Group decisions are implemented and co-ordinated by the Group Environment, Quality and Risk Management department.
